Ambalan maa hefun

Maahefun is known as a big feast for the friends and the neighbors sometime the whole island people have just before the holy month of Ramadan. This has been a tradition in the Maldives which bring Maldivians closer to each other every year.

Amblan is a sand mountain filled with fruits and local food. This is done in the islands in the past for maahefun. However now a days we don’t see an ambalan.

As people in the male can see there is an ambalan maahefun in behind of Dharubaaruge going on for a few days. This event has been there annually for the past few years. It’s done for a good cause and I am not against it but if you look at in my point of view we could see something different. The sand mountain which is made there is about the sand equal to make a one room flat. This sand is taken from the lagoons of the Maldives. As I said before in the past people had done the ambalan but at that time people didn’t know what would happen when we take the sand from the lagoon. Things had change now. We know that this would effect the natural current flow which is one of the reason our beautiful small island are eroding which could lead the island to disappear.

Why use this much of sand just for decoration? Can’t they use other ways of decoration? Even a big majority of the construction companies imported sand for the building. Day to day people using imported sand is increasing. I strongly suggest the organizer when they plan it next year to have something more environmental friendly. Already global warming is sinking our island. We don’t want to help our enemy? Or do we. Oh yes I forgot we are going to Australia when we sink so what the heck. Haloooooo there still people here that still want to live in Maldives and take this beautiful country to the next generations.
